Mission Statement One Heart Source (OHS) is a non-profit organization designed to empower young people through education, and to provide high quality education and care for vulnerable children in Tanzania and South Africa. Our mission is to build environments within marginalized populations that promote a comprehensive approach to eliminating the gap between those who have access to bettering their lives and those who do not.
Volunteer Duties Volunteer with One Heart Source in beautiful Cape Town to change educational and life outcomes of low-income students. Volunteers participate in OHS's established mentorship program, working with, on average, 3 students, and seek to realize transformational change in students' academic futures by intimately working with students and their community. Volunteers get a taste of South African culture through weekly immersion field trips and enjoy sights and spectacles of Cape Town while based safely in apartments in an ocean-side residential community. One Heart Source volunteers come from leading universities from around the world, and every academic discipline. Programs are capped at 10 participants. 

One Heart Source offers a variety of 4 to 8 week volunteer programs in both the spring and summer. Help with the sustainable development and daily function of the OHS children's home. Act as a mentor to the twenty children living in the OHS home through planning and implementing tutoring and after-school activities. Teach HIV/AIDS awareness/education at local schools. Work on community development projects such as health teaching at local hangouts, community agriculture initiatives, and school restoration and beautification. Live in a homestay with a Tanzanian family and become an integrated member of the community. Work with a dynamic team of international volunteers. 

One Heart Source is currently accepting applications for our 2013 Volunteer Programs in sub-Saharan Africa. In 2013, we are offering a variety of 2, 4, and 6-week programs running from May through September in both Zanizbar, Tanzania and Cape Town, South Africa! Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and our next and FINAL deadline is TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH 2013! As an OHS Volunteer, you will: * Live with a host family and be an active member of their household. (Zanzibar only) * Work with primary school students through a mentorship program focused on building strong Math and English foundations while empowering students. * Work closely with members of the community to create social uplift through partnerships. * Lead after-school programs in non-traditional subjects like dance, debate, art, and sports. * Work with a small, dynamic, driven team of international university students. We at One Heart Source believe in creating lasting social change through education and human connection.
